CLIVUT - CLImate Value of Urban Trees

The overall objective of the project is to develop knowledge and methodologies for the implementation of Urban Green Planning and Management Strategies (Urban Climate Green Asset Strategy) aimed at mitigating Climate Change and its effects on the urban ecosystem.
Starting from the key role of urban green spaces in climate mitigation and adopting an ecosystem-based approach, the project actions aim to promote greater use of public green areas and to increase green spaces and the number of trees in cities, with the goal of improving citizens’ health and well-being.

The project seeks to develop, in four pilot cities of the Mediterranean basin (Perugia, Bologna, Thessaloniki and Cascais), an innovative urban green management strategy, shared with citizens and the business community, which takes into account the positive impact of specific tree species on climate change–related phenomena and the resulting well-being of citizens.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

  • Improve the adaptive capacity of the urban ecosystem to Climate Change;
  • Increase the climate mitigation potential of urban green spaces;
  • Preserve and enhance biodiversity, improving citizens’ safety, health and well-being.
