InAbled Cities - urban environments for physical activity of people with disAbilities and senior citizens
The InAbled Cities project — Developing Inclusive Urban Environments for Physical Activity of People with Disabilities and Senior Citizens — coordinated by the European Foundation for Physiotherapy and Physical Activity (Belgium), in partnership with the Municipality of Bologna, the Municipality of Guadalupe (Spain), the Escuela Universitaria de Fisioterapia de la ONCE (Spain), the University Medical Center Radboudumc (Netherlands), and the Association Sport et Citoyenneté (France), is an intersectoral partnership of organisations from five EU countries aiming to pool their efforts to increase the participation of people with physical disabilities in healthy physical activities within urban areas.
Bologna, one of the two pilot cities together with Guadalupe, will test concrete physical activity initiatives aimed at elderly people and individuals with disabilities, supported by a citizen engagement strategy and training for physiotherapists and local practitioners. In addition, the Municipality will coordinate the development of a mobile app, created in collaboration with the University of Bologna, to facilitate engagement among participants and professionals.
The project also aims to develop practical recommendations and methodologies to foster cooperation between the sports and health sectors and local authorities, contributing to the creation of healthy, active, and inclusive cities.
