Food.E – Think Global, Eat Local

The European project FoodE – Food Systems in European Cities (GA862663) addresses the key priorities set out by Food 2030, the EU’s research and innovation policy developed in response to the need for resilient, healthy and inclusive food systems in European cities and regions (CRFS – Cities and Regions Food Systems). In particular, the project provides a set of recommendations and guiding principles aligned with the Farm-to-Fork Strategy of the European Commission’s Green Deal, which has paved the way for fair, healthy, and environmentally friendly food systems.

The main objective is to create a platform for exchange and collaboration among public bodies, citizens, SMEs, and non-profit organizations, enabling the sharing of ideas, best practices and tools to support European cities and regions in their transition towards innovative and sustainable food systems.

Coordinated by the Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences (DISTAL) of the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, FoodE adopts the slogan “Think global, eat local” and brings together an international consortium of 24 high-profile partners—including universities, research centers, NGOs, municipalities, and enterprises—from eight different European countries.

FoodE supports the growth and spread of citizen-driven local food systems, connecting existing initiatives across Europe and co-developing digital tools. The project is grounded in the principles of Citizen Science and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), promoting the co-creation of pilot solutions that enhance environmental sustainability, food safety, public health and the well-being of European citizens.
