After nearly eight years of activities, the European LIFE PREPAIR project, dedicated to air quality in the Po Valley, has come to an end. The project — coordinated by the Emilia-Romagna Region and carried out together with 17 other partners — presented its main results and future perspectives for environmental and health protection during the final event held in Turin.
The event, organised by the Piedmont Region from 18 to 21 September 2024, was attended by hundreds of participants and representatives from the Ministry of the Environment and the European Commission, who acknowledged the significant work accomplished by the Po Valley regions in tackling air pollution. PREPAIR covered an area of 135,000 square kilometres with 28 million inhabitants, implementing 35 actions on topics such as air monitoring, biomass, transport, energy, agriculture, and communication. Over the years, more than 250 experts were involved, 15,000 professionals trained, and seven Air Quality Plans drafted thanks to the project’s results.
To mark the conclusion of the initiative, the PREPAIR Layman’s Report is now available — a public-facing document that explains the project’s objectives and achievements in a simple and accessible way. Prepared by ART-ER, the project’s Communication lead, with contributions from all partners, the report summarises the work carried out to improve air quality and promote more sustainable lifestyles.
Through data, charts and testimonials, the Layman’s Report provides a comprehensive overview of how the shared policies and actions of the Po Valley regions have contributed to improving knowledge, cooperation, and awareness on the crucial issue of air quality. The report presents the main tools developed, including shared air quality databases, software for reducing agricultural emissions (BAT-Tool), sustainable mobility initiatives, training programmes on energy efficiency, and awareness campaigns aimed at citizens.
