Second Living Lab of the TERRAIN Project held in Bologna

On July 17, 2025, the Municipality of Bologna hosted the second TERRAIN Living Lab meeting, bringing together local authorities, schools, public transport representatives, civic associations and mobility experts. The event focused on developing a pilot action aimed at promoting cycling mobility among school children as part of the wider TERRAIN project, co-funded by the Interreg IPA ADRION Programme.

Participants discussed priorities and methods for implementing the pilot, which will include educational cycling activities in primary schools, road safety awareness, and balance bike sessions in preschools, in collaboration with local police and service providers. The meeting also served as a follow-up to the first Living Lab held in January 2025 and reassessed the feasibility of earlier proposals such as the “ciclobus” concept.

The pilot aligns with Bologna’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) and supports broader efforts to encourage active, safe and inclusive mobility in the Functional Urban Area. Activities are expected to begin in autumn 2025, following the involvement of schools and selection of delivery partners.
